Used hardbound book and dust jacket in very good condition. One dark sticker stain on the inside front leaf of the dust jacket, with a black ink mark over the jacket price. Slight rubbing to the top of the jacket, which now is in fresh, protective mylar. Cook, an investigative journalist famous for a scathing biography of Barry Goldwater as right wing extremist, amplifies in this book the warning from President Dwight Eisenhower on the dangers of a standing army. Cook excoriates the emerging military/industrial complex as a threat to peace and the future of democracy. Foreword by Bertrand Russell.
